I've read Mankell's books and I think they are all pretty good. The comparison to Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö is apt given that the stories are set in Sweden and are Police procedurals but they lack the leftist political tone of the Martin Beck books. They are nonetheless worth reading.
